The NBI has become one of my primary go-to assessments, from the classroom to the boardroom. I love that it’s science based, easy to use, and so versatile in its application. I use it to help leaders increase their effectiveness in a number of ways. It gives them a better understanding of themselves and how they prefer to think, solve problems, make decisions, and communicate. It also helps them appreciate that conflicts with others are often rooted in stylistic (vs.personal) differences, which makes those conflicts easier to navigate. Moreover, it elucidates the importance of diversity in thinking styles in teams and how to harness everyone’s preferences to optimize the team’s performance. It’s a real value-add to any coach’s toolkit.
