NBI framework

The NBI framework reveals four main modes of thinking based on right and left hemisphere as well as cognitive and affective thinking processes.

While all of us are able to use all four modes of thinking, many of us develop preferences for using some over others.

The framework also goes deeper within each of the 4 quadrants to identify 2 sub-dimensions reveialing a total of 8 sub-dimensions in total.

    L1: Realist/Analyst

Individuals with a high preference in this quadrant tend to focus on getting to the result. They value data, analysis, logic, clear objectives, bottom-lining. They often ask “What are the objectives? What is the bottom line?”

    R1: Strategist/Imagineer

Individuals with a high preference in this quadrant tend to focus on seeing the big picture and imagining what is possible. They value idea generation, change, seeing new possibilities, and creativity. They often ask “Why are these ideas important? Where are we going in the future?”

    R2: SOCIALIZER/EMPATHIZER

Individuals with a high preference in this quadrant tend to focus on building strong relationships and fostering collaboration. They value building consensus, harmonious relationships, understanding the needs of others and working as a team. They often ask “Who do we need to include? Who are our key clients and stakeholders?”

    L2: ORGANIZER/PRESERVER

Individuals with a high preference in this quadrant tend to focus on the systems and steps to implementing and executing on a task or project.  They value roadmaps, step-by-step processes, organization and procedures.  They often ask “How are we going to reach the goal? How will we sequence the action steps that we need to take?”
